Scott White
Prior to joining Southern Strategy Group, Scott White spent 19 years in Tennessee government service and the private practice of law. During Scott’s tenure with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, he gained invaluable insight into the regulation of business in Tennessee and the politics and policy making behind that regulation. While at the Department, Scott provided legal counsel to numerous agencies responsible for regulating everything from public accounting to the practice of pharmacy. From 2000-2006 Scott served as the Department’s Chief Legislative Liaison, and was responsible for coordinating and lobbying the Department’s legislative positions related to the regulation of insurance, securities, fire prevention, and dozens of professional occupations.
In 2001, during Governor Don Sundquist’s administration, Scott was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Department under Commissioner Anne Pope. Scott continued in this role under Governor Phil Bredesen’s administration and Commissioner Paula Flowers. As Deputy Commissioner, Scott was involved with the development and implementation of the Department’s policies, budgets, strategic plans, and legislative packages.
After leaving state government in 2006, Scott practiced law, specializing in regulatory compliance, and serving as legislative counsel and lobbyist for several private companies.
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Scott is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, and the Tennessee Government Executive Institute. Scott is involved with several local non-profit organizations and serves on the Tennessee Athletic Commission.
