DeWitt Zemp
Prior to joining Southern Strategy Group, DeWitt Zemp served as the Senior Director for Governmental Affairs with Moore & Van Allen, PLLC on issues related to government, policy, and regulatory affairs. DeWitt’s career spans more than twenty years and includes serving as an Aide to both President George H. W. Bush and President George W. Bush as the Director of Financial Management and Planning and Deputy Director of Advance Operations where he played a pivotal role managing and directing the operations and logistics of coordinating the President’s agenda, Communications and messaging throughout the United States and the world. DeWitt has worked closely with the governments in over 40 countries worldwide.
DeWitt has also served in key legislative staff roles at the state level including Project Manager in Global Business Development for South Carolina’s Department of Commerce where he managed over $200 million in investment projects. In addition, DeWitt served the citizens of South Carolina in the executive office for Policy and Programs for two respected South Carolina Governors, Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. and David M. Beasley. DeWitt was appointed by Governor Carroll Campbell as the State Director of the Federal Appalachian Regional Economic Development Program and Served as Governor David Beasley’s Deputy Communications Director to the Governor from 1996-99. In this role, DeWitt served as the Local Government Affairs Liaison for municipal and county governments. DeWitt managed and coordinated press events, was the liaison to the State Emergency Preparedness division, and served as personal assistant to the Governor. Prior to working in the Governor’s office, DeWitt served as Director of Legislative Affairs for South Carolina’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism where he oversaw all legislation pertaining to personnel, international and domestic tourism marketing, 46 state parks, and the agency’s $50 million budget.
DeWitt attended the College of Charleston where he studied Political Science. In December of 1999, the Governor of South Carolina presented DeWitt with the Order of the Palmetto – South Carolina’s highest civilian honor – for excellence and dedication to the Citizens of South Carolina and his continued services to the State.
