Bob Herlong

Prior to his retirement in March 2009, Bob Herlong served as the Vice President and Regional Manager of the Southeast Region for the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), based in Des Plaines, Illinois.  PCI is a national trade association representing over 1,000 property and casualty insurance companies. 

In his position with PCI, Bob oversaw the association’s involvement with and response to insurance-related legislative and regulatory actions in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.  Bob also supervised PCI’s government affairs representatives in several other regions, including states in the Gulf Region, the mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and mid-West.

Bob joined the Alliance of American Insurers in December 1997 as Regional Manager of the then Southeast Region.  Bob was promoted to Vice President in 2001.  The Alliance merged with the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) in January 2004 to form PCI.

Prior to coming to the Alliance, Bob worked for Nationwide Insurance Enterprise as a Legislative Area Representative for 13 years, where he had a wide range of legislative, regulatory and administrative responsibilities in the Southeast.

Previously, Bob was a partner with the firm Barnes, Stork, Herlong, Wolff & Reyner, in Columbia, South Carolina, where he served as legislative counsel for Allstate Insurance Company.

Bob also has participated in a number of insurance industry related boards, councils and advisory committees.  Bob also has been recognized by Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.

After earning a B.A. in history from Presbyterian College, and serving as an Assistant Adjutant General in the U.S. Army, Bob received his J.D. from the University Of South Carolina School of Law, where he earned numerous honors.
